Fall is here again, the second spring season where every leaf is a flower. The time for reflection of another year passing and anticipation of a new year approaching. Autumn shows us how beautiful it is to let things go. What has evolved over this past year? Where do we want to go? In our personal life? In our profession? Let it go, reflect, and grow! This Fall issue of Today’s Veterinary Nurse highlights topics where the medical profession has reflected and grown. Not too long ago, pain was not assessed in human pediatrics. Correctly and thankfully, this practice has changed, and in veterinary health care today, pain assessment has become the fourth vital assessment. In this issue, we delve into assessing chronic pain in our feline patients. This issue also recognizes the renewed importance of discussing adverse food reactions with pet owners. Our Nutrition Notes article highlights the most common elimination diet trial mistakes, so we can be more knowledgeable when having these complex conversations. This issue’s Clinic Champion article spotlights a veterinary nurse who gives her time, talent, and countless hours of sleep to help neonates experiencing a rough start to their life. She saw a need, believed she could make a difference, and has helped hundreds of neonates! This issue also covers communication skills, paying off debt, and muscle function—there truly is something for everyone. To paraphrase Winne the Pooh, autumn is a time of hot chocolatey mornings and toasty marshmallow evenings. So, enjoy the season while you reflect and grow your skills!
