The National Association of Veterinary Technicians in America (NAVTA) announces the sixteenth veterinary technician specialty academy to the veterinary technology profession. The AVTDI is comprised of veterinary technicians dedicated to performing a higher level of veterinary Diagnostic Imaging modalities such as: digital radiographs, fluoroscopic special procedures, CT scan, MRI, ultrasound, and nuclear medicine imaging. “The Organizing Committee of the Academy of Veterinary Technicians in Diagnostic Imaging (AVTDI) worked diligently to meet the NAVTA Committee on Veterinary Technician Specialties (CVTS) standards required for NAVTA specialty recognition.” stated Ed Carlson, CVT, VTS (Nutrition) Interim Chair of the NAVTA Committee on Veterinary Technician Specialties (CVTS). “NAVTA is thrilled that veterinary technicians with a strong passion for diagnostic imaging now have a veterinary technician specialty to pursue.”
The NAVTA Committee on Veterinary Technicians Specialties was formed in 1994 and is recognized by the American Veterinary Medical Association. The committee provides guidelines to veterinary technician organizations to facilitate the formation of a specialty and assists the Academies throughout their years while in existence. Academies develop pathways and advanced standards that candidates must complete and maintain in order to be awarded the designation of VTS (Veterinary Technician Specialist) in their specific discipline.
