The Perfect Crossover
Being a veterinary relationship manager for Covetrus has allowed Hannah Jones the chance to deliver success for veterinarians and the pets they serve.
Hannah Jones believes a critical element to one’s career is passion. Whatever the role and responsibilities, you must be passionate about what you do. “I love my job and truly feel like it is making a difference, and that I can positively impact the animal health care industry,” said Jones, a veterinary relationship manager for Covetrus. “We are creating a movement with VetSuite, and I can’t wait to see what the future holds. Because I believe in our product solutions and believe that they can truly deliver success to the customers that I care about, it becomes a winning proposition for everyone. I just need to remember that when vets win, we all win.”
That desire to help veterinarians win grew out of a lifelong love of animals and early professional experiences in veterinary hospitals. Jones graduated from the University of Georgia with a degree in animal science. Following college, she worked in a few animal hospitals. During that time, she became more and more passionate about the client education and financial pieces of running a hospital. “Paying attention to inventory cost, winning against online pharmacy competition, increasing client compliance – these are some of the complexities that clinics across the country face – and I wanted to help solve them,” she said.
Jones eventually got an opportunity to join Covetrus. Joining Covetrus has provided Jones “the perfect cross” between helping veterinarians and allowing them to better serve their animals, she said. “Every day I get to talk about VetSuite and how we can improve their clinical outcomes and contribute to their financial success,” Jones said. “Improving the lives of veterinarians and improving the overall productivity and efficiency of their clinics brings me a great deal of purpose.”
As a veterinary relationship manager (VRM), Jones’ goal is to help veterinarians with their business. “We recognize the many challenges that veterinarians face, especially with today’s competitive landscape,” she said. “I want to introduce my practices to our VetSuite solution – a network that delivers increased productivity, efficiency and improved profit margins and creates greater pet parent loyalty. All of this aligns to my own personal goals – and to the Covetrus mission to improve the financial and clinical outcomes of veterinarians.”
As a VRM, Jones considers herself a business advisor to her customers – she helps them solve problems and find the best way to give them time back from the complexities of their practice so they can do what they love – taking care of pets.
Caring deeply
It is incredibly challenging to own and run a veterinary clinic in today’s competitive environment. There is a tremendous amount of competition from online pharmacies and retailers. The convenience of online shopping has made it difficult for clinics to compete financially if they don’t have their own online solution, Jones said.
“I love that part of my role is helping vets compete by giving them a way to have their own online solution, increasing online retail options and making it more effective for veterinary clinics to compete in retail,” she said. “And then I can also help them integrate with their PIMS, which provides transparency to the prescriptions. With the convenience of online shopping being here to stay, I love that Covetrus has a comprehensive solution to help them be competitive in this space and that I get to partner with them to support their business and the pet parents they serve.”
When she’s not calling on accounts, Jones is a wife and mother of 2-year-old Beckett. Her family gives her great purpose. Outside of work, her family likes to cheer on the Georgia Bulldogs and spend time outdoors hiking and going to parks. They have two dogs, Stark and Maren, and an eclectus parrot named Scarlet.
Jones is also a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) volunteer for her county. CASAs are a group of court certified volunteers who advocate for children in foster care. “It is something I care about deeply,” she said. “It has been a privilege to make a difference for children going through foster care and advocate for their well-being.”
By caring deeply about her community and her professional work, Jones has led an incredibly fulfilling life and purpose. Her passion for both shows no signs of slowing down. Everything about the animal health care industry – it’s challenges and opportunities – continues to excite, she said. “Even with all the complexities that our customers are facing every day, I really do believe in the opportunities that VetSuite presents to veterinary practices,” Jones said. “Together we can shift the economics back in favor of the independent veterinary hospital and that will create an even greater pet parent experience.”
Passion and positivity
For younger reps starting out in the industry, Jones said it’s important to be passionate and be positive. “There are so many opportunities for success if you are passionate about what you do,” she said. “And while there are challenges in any position, maintaining positivity reflects on everyone around you. One of our leaders recently quoted Suzy Kassem in a recent call: ‘Doubt kills more dreams than failure ever will.’ Being positive and passionate also makes work much more fun and exciting.”
