Canine Companions Puppies Take Flight on Goodyear Blimp With Snoopy

A unique milestone took flight when the iconic Goodyear Blimp carried a group of 10-week-old future service dogs from Long Beach to Carson, California. In this special journey, the young pups – destined to become highly trained companions – flew alongside the beloved Snoopy, in partnership with Canine Companions and the Peanuts brand. The moment marked a fusion of celebration and purpose: Goodyear’s 100-year blimp legacy, Peanuts’ 75-year anniversary, and Canine Companions’ 50 years of transforming lives.

The flight was more than a fun photo op: it symbolized the beginning of an extraordinary journey for these pups. After landing in Carson, a crowd welcomed them before they headed to volunteer puppy-raisers. There, they’ll begin 16 to 18 months of socialization, obedience and foundation training – the critical early stage of their service-dog careers. These future companions will eventually support children, adults and veterans with disabilities, all at no cost to the client.

Inaugural AKC Scent Work Master National Crowned

The American Kennel Club (AKC) has announced the winners of its inaugural Scent Work Master National, held October 12–14, 2025, at the Roberts Centre in Wilmington, Ohio. This landmark event featured nearly 200 dogs from over 40 states and 66 breeds, competing in a three-day format that tested their skills in four Master-level elements: Container, Buried, Interior, and Exterior searches.

The top honors went to a female Vizsla named Rhubarb, owned by Leigh Gelotte, who earned the title of AKC Scent Work Master National Champion (SWNC). Reserve Champion was a Border Collie named Big Mac, owned by Robin Ford. Other top finishers included Luna, another Border Collie, and Banyu, an All-American Dog, who secured third and fourth places, respectively.

Caroline Murphy, AKC Director of Performance Events, praised the competitors, stating, “Watching these dogs at work was nothing short of incredible. We look forward to continuing this exciting competition.” The event marks a significant milestone in AKC’s expansion of scent detection sports, highlighting the growing popularity and skill of canine scent work across the country.
