Farmer sentiment rises in latest Ag Barometer report

Farmer sentiment rose in June for the second month in a row, according to the latest Ag Economy Barometer.

The monthly survey, released by Purdue University and CME Group, collects responses from 400 producers about their confidence in the farm economy in current and future conditions.

Overall producer confidence rose in May and June, following a slump in March and April with the onset of the pandemic.

Both the Index of Current Conditions and the Index of Future Conditions rose last month. While farmers were less confident in the future than they were at this time last year, the outlook on current conditions was slightly higher this year than last year. This likely reflected improved spring planting conditions and financial pandemic-related assistance from the federal government, according to the announcement.

The Farm Capital Investment Index also rose, indicating producers are more confident in making large investments now than they were in recent months.
