NaVetor integrates with Vetsource for prescription management
NaVetor, a veterinary cloud software offered through Patterson Veterinary Supply, has announced an integration with Vetsource’s digital pharmacy and business services platform. When veterinarians recommend a therapy in the patient’s medical record within NaVetor, clients receive an email notification that drives them to an online store, branded for the veterinary practice, to make the purchase.
Thrive, FidoCure in second year of cancer collaboration
Thrive Pet Healthcare, which operates more than 380 hospitals in 37 states, reported that since its collaboration with FidoCure in 2022, more than 50 veterinarians have used FidoCure’s precision medicine platform in approximately 400 canine cancer cases. FidoCure has provided these patients with next-generation sequencing to help guide treatments using its precision medicine technology.
CityVet opens Texas location
CityVet, a Dallas-based network of 45 veterinarian-owned practices, announced the opening of its newest location in Keller, Texas. CityVet Keller will be led by local veterinarian Dr. Kelsey Daugette, a graduate of Texas A&M University who earned her DVM in 2015.
Animal health industry picks up after slow 2Q
The animal health industry’s performance for the first half of the year was essentially flat, but activity picked up in the third quarter, writes Scott Brown of Cherry Tree & Associates in the most recent quarterly highlights report. The activity included Philbro’s agreement to acquire certain assets of Zoetis, General Mills’ acquisition of Belgian pet food company Edgard & Cooper, and various funding events, such as FirstVet’s raising $16.6 million.
APPA launches new supplier membership opportunity
The American Pet Products Association has introduced a new membership opportunity for suppliers of pet product components, ingredients, packaging, live animal companions, business services and more. Supplier members will have the opportunity to showcase their business at the Global Pet Expo, March 26-28, 2025, in Orlando, Florida.
CyberKnife in use at BluePearl Malvern
BluePearl Malvern (Pennsylvania), part of BluePearl Pet Hospital, a provider of specialty and emergency veterinary care, reports it operates the only CyberKnife in the world used solely in veterinary medicine. Made by Madison, Wisconsin-based Accuray, the CyberKnife is a non-invasive treatment for cancerous and non-cancerous tumors and other conditions where radiation therapy is indicated.
Drs. Weinstein and Becker honored
At the VetPartners 2024 Mid-Year Conference in August, charter member Peter Weinstein, DVM, MBA, was presented with the Distinguished Life Member Award, and Marty Becker, DVM, Fear Free founder and chief professional relations officer, was given the Pioneer Professional Award. At the conference, VetPartners introduced Provet Cloud, GuardianVets and Inventory Ally as new sponsors. They join existing sponsors AVMA PLIT | AVMA LIFE, CareCredit, and Pets Best.
Federal bill would include veterinary care in HSAs
Congresswomen Deborah Ross (NC) and Claudia Tenney (NY) introduced the People and Animals Well-being (PAW) Act to expand eligibility to include veterinary care expenses under tax-advantaged health care spending accounts, specifically Health Savings Accounts (HSAs) and Flexible Spending Accounts (FSAs). Additionally, the legislation supports veterans and people living with disabilities by imposing no limit on veterinary care expenses for service animals.
