MedVet welcomes Dr. Kate Bailey as VP of medical excellence and education
Specialty care provider MedVet announced that as VP of medical excellence and education, Dr. Kate Bailey will guide and enhance its education, patient safety, quality initiatives and training programs. Previously she served as vice president of education and quality at United Veterinary Care. Dr. Bailey currently serves on the American College of Veterinary Anesthesia & Analgesia board of directors and the North American Veterinary Anesthesia Society board of directors.
CityVet to open second Charlotte, NC, location
CityVet, a network of 59 veterinarian-owned practices, announced its second Charlotte Metro clinic – in Marvin, North Carolina – will officially open May 27, 2025, under the leadership of local veterinarian and owner Dr. Sandra Welsh. A 1991 graduate of the Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine, Dr. Welsh previously served as lead veterinarian and medical director at a practice in South Charlotte.
Petfolk newest location is 11th of the year
Petfolk’s newly opened location in Wellington, Florida, is the company’s 33rd pet care center nationwide and the 11th location opened in 2025. The new South Florida center is led by Partner Veterinarian Dr. Muzzy Sayyid, DVM, and business partner Lori Crause.
Pets can spread antimicrobial resistance
Dogs and cats are important sources of resistant microbes, with implications for the health of pets and pet owners, according to the American Society for Microbiology. A study from China examining antimicrobial resistance among pet-derived Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae and Staphylococcus spp. from 2000 to 2022 showed increasing rates over the study period, including for so-called “last resort” antibiotics like colistin.
Ainos reports interim trial results therapy for feline inflammatory condition
San Diego-based Ainos Inc. announced “compelling” interim results from its ongoing veterinary clinical trial using low-dose interferon VELDONA for treating Feline Chronic Gingivostomatitis, a chronic inflammatory condition in cats. The interim results demonstrate improvements in inflammation and a consistent reduction in steroid dependency, according to the company. To date, three cats have completed treatment, with a fourth currently in progress.
Antech launches RapidRead Dental, a radiology interpretation tool
Diagnostic company Antech announced the launch of RapidRead Dental, an AI-powered radiology interpretation tool said to deliver dental radiograph evaluations in approximately 10 minutes with 98% accuracy. Veterinarians receive real-time interpretations while patients are under anesthesia.
Pet parasite forecast predicts continuing spread across US
Four vector-borne diseases tracked by the Companion Animal Parasite Council — anaplasmosis, ehrlichiosis, heartworm, and Lyme — continue to spread across the U.S. The range of the Lyme disease tick vector continues to grow, with populations from the North posing a greater risk for transmitting it. In addition, the highest risk of heartworm infection is in the Southeast with a creep northward along the Mississippi River and Atlantic coast.
