Creative Science acquires Infiniti Medical and Orthomed UK Ltd
Creative Science, a CIMA Animal Health company, announced its acquisition of Infiniti Medical LLC and its subsidiary Orthomed UK Ltd., which specializes in veterinary interventional radiology, cardiology, soft tissue surgery and orthopedics. Infiniti is the developer of Vet Stent as well as technologies in diagnostics, telemedicine and digital health. Creative Science was formed from the merger of several companies, including Arenus Animal Health, Kinetic Vet, Banixx, Equine Medical & Surgical Associates, Breeder’s Choice, and Exodus Breeders.
VetPartners unveils team utilization guide
VetPartners has launched the Veterinary Team Utilization Guide, a free digital tool designed to help practice owners and managers empower team members, maximize efficiency, improve team collaboration, enhance patient care and increase practice revenue. Content includes team development, marketing and financial planning and legal compliance. The project received support from CareCredit, Pets Best Pet Health Insurance, and Provet Cloud.
Tuskegee lays off 10 veterinary school faculty and staff
Tuskegee University College of Veterinary Medicine in Alabama has laid off 10 employees during what its dean described as a “challenging time.” Tuskegee’s program was founded in 1945 to provide opportunities to Black students who wanted to study veterinary medicine. Today, Tuskegee trains the majority of Black veterinarians in the U.S. In recent years, the school has been under pressure to meet educational standards set by the American Veterinary Medical Association Council on Education.
VHMA announces 20 receive CVPM credential
The Veterinary Hospital Managers Association announced that 20 veterinary management professionals recently earned the Certified Veterinary Practice Manager (CVPM) credential. Before sitting for the CVPM exam, applicants must meet practice management experience requirements and demonstrate that they have earned sufficient formal education and continuing education credits. The exam is offered electronically across North America.
Large dogs still a concern in UK despite XL bully ban
Concerns in the UK about large breeds replacing the banned XL bully demonstrate the “status dog” problem still needs to be resolved, according to IVC Evidensia group animal welfare advisor Dave Martin. The warning follows calls for further legislative action against another specific type, the bully kutta (also known as Pakistani mastiff), after a publicized attack in northwest England.
Veterinary Dentistry Specialists opens fifth location near Twin Cities
Veterinary Dental Specialists, a practice for pets in need of advanced oral care, has opened its fifth location in the Twin Cities area of Minnesota. Board-certified veterinary dentist Alexander Adrian, DVM, DAVDC, and board-certified veterinary anesthesiologist Erin Wendt-Hornickle, DVM, DACVAA, are co-owners of the practice, along with VDS founder Carlos A. Rice, DVM, DAVDC. Services include endodontics, extractions, jaw fracture repair, malocclusions, oral cancer surgery, orthodontics, palate surgery, periodontics, prosthodontics and restoratives, and salivary gland surgery.
Boston’s housing crisis is also making pets homeless
Pets in Greater Boston are losing their homes due to high housing costs and a lack of pet-friendly and affordable homes, according to the Animal Rescue League of Boston (ARL Boston) and the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. In 2023, ARL Boston took in nearly 340 pets surrendered for housing-related reasons. Last year, that number more than doubled to over 700.
Anivive expands specialty diagnostic lab
Veterinary oncology company Anivive announced the expansion of its Long Beach, California, lab to accommodate demand for its specialty pathology services through Vidium. The lab handles genomic sequencing for SearchLight DNA diagnostics and includes Illumina next-generation sequencing equipment, the Hamamatsu high-resolution digital slide scanner, and training for lab personnel to support histology, cytology and genomic sequencing services.
