Vetoquinol warns of counterfeit pet supplements
Vetoquinol is warning pet owners and veterinarians of counterfeit pet supplements being sold by a third-party seller on Amazon.
The pharmaceutical company said it has identified “a small number of counterfeit products alleging to be Vetoquinol Zylkene Behavior Support Capsules for Dogs and Cats,” 75 milligrams.
“Vetoquinol identified the counterfeit product was purchased from an unapproved third-party, online retailer. All cases were associated with imitation bottles using a single lot number: 048019 with the expiration date 05/2021.”
Customers with the associated lot number of Zylkene in the 75-mg, 120-count packaging can receive a free, genuine replacement product.
“Thankfully, there are no illnesses or injuries associated with this instance, and no other Vetoquinol products or additional sizes of Zylkene were counterfeited,” said Dr. Eric M. Alsup, country manager of Vetoquinol USA. “Customers can purchase Zylkene from authorized retailers and be assured of its safety and quality.
“Unfortunately, the sale of counterfeit products is a challenge many other global manufacturers continue to face,” Alsup said. “We are working with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to address this problem.”
