PetSmart expands partnership with vaccine provider

PetSmart is expanding its partnership with ShotVet, a vaccination provider that holds vaccination events at stores throughout the United States, including CVS, Ace Hardware and 7-Eleven.

The retailer currently offers full veterinary services in about 800 of its stores through Banfield Pet Hospital. ShotVet is offered in stores that don’t have veterinary practices, and PetSmart said it plans to offer ShotVet’s services in more than 400 stores once the expansion is complete.

Pet owners can use the ShotVet website to schedule appointments, or they can walk in. Services include rabies and Bordetella vaccines, Lyme and heartworm tests, and exams. Customers can choose a package of vaccinations and tests for their dogs or cats, or they can get individual shots.

“Similar to humans being able to get a flu vaccine inside a grocery store by a licensed third-party provider, pet parents will be able to get affordable vaccines for their pets at their local PetSmart,” Greg Scanlon, senior vice president of store operations at PetSmart, said in the announcement.

ShotVet’s services are administered by licensed veterinarians.
