Online event will focus on team-based care in veterinary education
An upcoming event will help veterinary educators begin thinking about how to promote team-based care in their programs.
The online event, taking place July 21-22, is hosted by the American Association of Veterinary Medical Colleges and Colorado State University. Among other things, it will include a look at the current educational environment, including new educational opportunities like specialization, for veterinary technicians and nurses.
Aimed mostly at veterinary educators, the event will focus on a “competency-based veterinary educational framework,” according to the announcement. It will look at issues of work roles and responsibilities, retention, and compensation for veterinary technicians and nurses. Additionally, desired “core competencies” for all DVM graduates will be discussed, along with effective models from veterinary teaching hospitals.
The symposium will include discussion on diversity, equity and inclusion, competency-based veterinary and nursing education, and potential master’s programs in veterinary clinical care.
More information is available in the announcement from the AAVMC.
