New medication launched to treat epilepsy in dogs

Mizner Biosciences and Clipper Distributing announced the launch of Nobatol, which the companies say is the first and only veterinary-labeled phenobarbital indicated for the prevention of seizures due to generalized epilepsy in dogs.

Nobatol comes in a scored, all-natural beef-flavored soft chewable tablet meant to enhance palatability and ensure accurate dosing. It’s available in 60-count bottles, in 30 and 60 milligrams.

Phenobarbital is the No. 1 prescribed medication for idiopathic epilepsy in dogs, and veterinarians prescribe about 140 million tablets of the medication annually, the companies say. “Mizner and Clipper believe Nobatol will have a positive impact on the animal health industry, providing veterinarians with a convenient, palatable vet-labeled phenobarbital option,” they said in their announcement.
