New client handout explains health benefits of the human-animal bond

The Human Animal Bond Research Institute and LifeLearn Animal Health have partnered to create a “human-animal bond kit” that practices can share with clients, highlighting the health benefits of a healthy relationship with pets.

A HABRI survey found that 92% of pet owners are more likely to maintain their pet’s health and keep up with vaccines when they’re educated on the health benefits of pets. Eighty-nine percent of pet owners are more likely to take their pet to the vet for regular check-ups, according to HABRI.

The one-page document includes several facts for clients, including:

  • Research has shown that dog owners are at a lower risk for cardiovascular disease than non-pet owners.
  • Routine walks not only benefit both pet and owner, but also promote social interaction with neighbors.
  • Pet ownership has been linked to a decrease in depression and loneliness in adults.

By making sure their pet is healthy, HABRI says, owners improve their own health.
