Covetrus partners with Heart + Paw
Covetrus announced a new strategic partnership with Heart + Paw, an integrated pet care company that offers comprehensive wellness for animals, including veterinary care, boarding, daycare, grooming and community experiences to pets and their parents. Heart + Paw opened its first center in June 2019 and has significant national growth plans with an initial focus on the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic regions. Covetrus will serve as the supply chain partner for Heart + Paw, a new concept in the pet care market that will deliver an integrated experience for pets and their parents. Heart + Paw — led by Vincent Bradley, the former president and CEO of Banfield — has plans to build and acquire 200+ sites in the coming years.
MSD Animal Health reaches milestone in supporting elimination of rabies in high-risk regions
MSD Animal Health, a division of Merck & Co., Inc., announced a milestone accomplishment in the fight against rabies with the donation of in total 3 million doses of the company’s NOBIVAC® rabies vaccine. For more than 20 years, the company has made a commitment to work to eliminate rabies by supporting research on rabies control, mass canine vaccination in high-risk regions of the world where much-needed vaccination is often inaccessible and education initiatives to raise awareness in high-risk regions, such as Africa, India and Malawi.
KindredBio partners with Veterinary Hospitals Association
Today’s Veterinary Business reported that Kindred Biosciences reached an agreement to stock Mirataz and future biopharmaceuticals at more than 420 clinics represented by the Veterinary Hospitals Association. The South St. Paul, Minnesota, association acts as a group purchasing organization and provider of business services and continuing education for member clinics. Mirataz (mirtazapine transdermal ointment) is formulated to manage feline weight loss caused by underlying conditions such as chronic kidney disease, cancer and diabetes.

Ethos Veterinary Health adds two hospital groups
Ethos Veterinary Health (Ethos), an independent veterinary health company, announced the addition of two hospital groups: WVRC, with three locations in Wisconsin, and Pet Emergency & Specialty Center of Marin (PESCM), located in San Rafael, Calif. WVRC extends Ethos’ Midwest footprint into Southern Wisconsin, and PESCM adds to Ethos’ existing presence in Northern California. “We are excited to have these culturally aligned, successful teams join Ethos. The addition of WVRC and PESCM allows us to expand our network and the patient-focused medical care we believe in,” said Ames Prentiss, CEO of Ethos. “Both of these practices are well-established, professionally managed and highly respected in the industry.” For WVRC and PESCM, joining Ethos means being able to take advantage of systems and programs they may not have had access to before.
Vets warn of ‘MMR moment’ for animal health as increasing number of owners refuse to vaccinate pets
The Telegraph reported the United Kingdom’s leading veterinary body has warned that animal health is facing an “MMR” moment due to increasing numbers of owners refusing to vaccinate their pets. The British Veterinary Association says anti-vaccination conspiracies circulating online are persuading owners that inoculations against devastating diseases are unsafe. The BVA’s intervention coincides with a survey of the profession that found 98% of veterinarians have been challenged by owners about the need for vaccination. To read more, visit telegraph.co.uk
