AAHA guide helps practices find economic opportunity in preventive care
A new guide from the American Animal Hospital Association aims to help veterinary practices realize the economic benefits of providing high-quality preventive care.
The publication, “Preventive Care Protocols and Practice Economics,” builds on two previous documents to look at the business opportunity for preventive care testing. It was developed with support from Idexx.
Preventive care is important for patients: Regular diagnostic testing, including on healthy animals, can reveal underlying conditions and catch disease sooner. At the same time, it supports ethical economic growth for practices, which is essential for practice sustainability in any economic climate, AAHA said.
“This publication will benefit patients, clients and veterinary practices by improving communication about the value of preventive care,” said AAHA deputy CEO Janice Trumpeter.
The guide provides practical ideas, pricing strategies and client communication strategies to help gain client compliance. It also includes tips from veterinary teams that have been successful with their own preventive care programs.
