ZyVet launches Furosemide generic for dogs and cats

Zydus Lifesciences Ltd. announced its U.S. subsidiary, ZyVet, has launched the first veterinary-approved generic version of Furosemide Tablets for dogs and cats. Furosemide plays a crucial role in treating congestive heart failure, chronic fluid retention, edema and pulmonary congestion arising from cardiac, renal or systemic diseases in pets, according to the firm.

 

Virbac reports 1H 2025 growth driven by sales for specialty and dental products

Virbac reported revenue for the first half of 2025 of €738.3 million ($874 million) compared to €702.9 million ($832 million) in 2024, an increase of 5%. North America achieved growth of 5.9% at constant exchange rates and scope. Growth in the North American market was driven by sustained sales momentum for specialty and dental products for companion animals, according to the firm.

 

Diagnostic system identifies ADHD-suspected dogs

Researchers at Eötvös Loránd University in Hungary reported developing a diagnostic system capable of screening family dogs with suspected attention deficit hyperactivity disorder following the diagnostic principles of human ADHD. The study used the previously validated “Dog ADHD and Functionality Rating Scale” (DAFRS), which evaluates dog behavior from two perspectives – the presence of symptoms and an assessment of the extent to which these behaviors interfere with the dog’s daily functioning.

 

Feline visits up in first half of 2025: CATalyst Council

Feline clinical visits grew in the first half of 2025 while overall veterinary visits declined, according to the CATalyst Council in the third volume of its 2025 Feline Market Insights Report. Species mix dynamics continue to favor cats, aligning with lifestyle shifts that impact pet ownership. The final Feline Market Insights volume in Q4 2025 will incorporate early findings from CATalyst Council’s census-balanced study of 40,000 U.S. households.

 

Modern Animal raises $46MM in funding

Los Angeles veterinary company Modern Animal announced that it has achieved a nine-figure revenue run rate and has raised $46 million in funding, led by Addition, True Ventures, and Upfront Ventures, with participation from Founders Fund. Modern Animal has 27 clinics in California, Texas and Colorado.

 

U.S. Representative urges support for PAW Act at Pet Night

Pet Night on Capitol Hill, an annual event sponsored by pet care and animal health companies, took place Sept. 16 in Washington, D.C. Representative Claudia Tenney (R-NY) used the event to urge support for the People and Animals Well-being (PAW) Act, which would allow people to use up to $1,000 of their Health Savings Accounts or Flexible Spending Accounts for veterinary care or a pet health insurance policy.

 

Heavy storms pose heartworm threat for pets

Veterinarians warn that the surge in mosquitoes following heavy storms can increase the risk of heartworm. “As greenhouse gases trap more heat, the atmosphere can absorb more moisture,” said Shel Winkley, a meteorologist with climate research organization Climate Central. “That’s fuel for heavier rainfall, which leads to more flooding. When you add that to a warming climate, it creates a real risk for disease.” Prevention is the best defense.
