News and happenings from the world’s largest veterinary expo.

A record-breaking crowd, totaling nearly 30,000 people from 86 countries, convened in Orlando, Florida for VMX 2025. Hosted by the North American Veterinary Community (NAVC), VMX is the world’s largest veterinary education conference and the first veterinary conference of the year. This year’s event offered more than 1,300 hours of continuing education for veterinary professionals and featured a record 735 exhibits from multinational organizations to veterinary startups showcasing the latest in diagnostic technologies and medical advances.

Academy Award-winning actor and director Kevin Costner opened the conference with a heartfelt speech about his love for animals and the deep gratitude he holds for veterinarians, based on his personal experiences. Other entertainment highlights included musical guests Dan + Shay and the VMX Vet Gala (a play on New York City’s annual Met Gala).

The VMX Expo Hall showcased groundbreaking advances in veterinary medicine, from artificial intelligence (AI) – driven diagnostics to cutting-edge treatments. Building on genetic science, AI-powered DNA sequencing is transforming disease detection, allowing veterinarians to provide faster, more precise care. Among the record-breaking 32 innovations featured in the New Product Gallery was the first RNA vaccine technology for companion animals, offering rapid, targeted protection against diseases like canine influenza and feline leukemia virus

VMX 2025 also empowered veterinary professionals to help animals in need around the world. NAVC Gives awarded a $25,000 grant to BestyBnB, a technology platform that provides temporary foster homes to pets impacted by domestic violence and other crises.

The NAVC also launched a global veterinary fundraising drive to support the Pasadena Humane Wildfire Relief Fund, underscoring the organization’s commitment to helping animals impacted by the fires in California. In addition, a $10,000 donation was made from the NAVC to provide valuable financial assistance to support animal care in the war-torn country of Ukraine through the work of Dr. Vlad Ushakov, president of the Ukrainian Small Animal Veterinary Association (USAVA).

The following were several of the notable launches, releases, and updates leading up to and during VMX:

Covetrus unveils Covetrus Platform for veterinary clinics

Prior to VMX 2025, Covetrus unveiled The Covetrus Platform, a “a comprehensive and connected offering of solutions” designed to optimize every touchpoint between veterinarian and pet owner, from pre-visit to post-appointment, according to the company. Key features include built-in processing, new AI capabilities, bidirectional integration with Zoetis Diagnostics and a suite of client-engagement tools.

“Covetrus puts the veterinarian at the heart of everything that we do,” said Ben Wolin, president and CEO of Covetrus. “As the market dynamics continue to change, managing a veterinary practice is harder than ever. As the first tech-enabled practice improvement company, Covetrus is dedicated to providing innovative solutions that directly solve for the competitive pressures veterinarians face today. Through the Covetrus Platform and the VetSuite network, we are empowering veterinarians to improve their clinical and financial outcomes – ultimately giving them more time for the thing that matters most – caring for pets.”

Meanwhile, the VetSuite practice improvement network is designed to address competitive pressures for independent practices. Covetrus touted several benefits from its VeSuite members, including 50 hours per month in productivity savings, 30% online storefront growth compared to non-VetSuite customers, 25% increase in profit margin, and more than $8 million in rebates paid out to VetSuite members.

“It has been incredibly powerful to see the impact that VetSuite membership can have on the thousands of customers who have trusted us to help them compete more effectively,” said Matt Yordy, president, North America. “VetSuite is helping these practices increase revenue, streamline workflows and lower costs.”
