New AI platform helps farms improve their animal production sustainability
A new artificial intelligence platform aims to help farms improve the environmental footprint of their animal production.
The platform, called Sustell, was launched by DSM in partnership with Blonk Consultants. It uses artificial intelligence to collect animal production data at the farm level. The data is then analyzed by an “expert center” made up of representatives from DSM and Blonk, who develop potential paths for producers to take so they can improve their environmental impact.
According to the announcement, the platform complies with international environmental standards established by the U.N. Food and Agriculture Organization. DSM says the technology covers the “17 largest agricultural producing countries in the world,” and it analyzes the environmental impact of 19 different categories of climate change.
“To sustainably feed almost 10 billion people by 2050 within our planetary boundaries, we must apply new thinking, technologies and business models,” said Ivo Lansbergen, president of DSM. “Together, we must shift away from criticizing animal farmers for their environmental impact and instead help and support them by providing the tools and systems to improve the sustainability footprint of animal farming.”
