Webinars will guide veterinarians on best practices for cattle safety

Upcoming webinars will provide guidance on cattle safety for producers and veterinarians, and a new online resource is available to help producers improve biosecurity.

March 9: Breeding soundness exam webinar

Bovine Veterinarian and Drovers are hosting an online training on breeding soundness exams to ensure adult and yearling bulls are ready for the breeding season. It’s approved for one hour of continuing education.

March 24: Interstate travel webinar

GVL (GlobalVetLink) and Utah Assistant State Veterinarian Dr. Amanda Price will host a webinar to help veterinarians navigate current rules and regulations on cattle movement. Topics include identification, testing and documentation requirements; potential travel requirements and how they vary by state; and ensuring clients have what they need for compliant domestic travel. The webinar is approved for one hour of CE.

New resource: Disease transmission and prevention module

The Beef Quality Assurance program has released an online module on the basics of disease transmission and prevention. This is part of BQA’s new series of “Advanced Education Modules.”

“These resources were developed so that anyone who is involved in raising cattle—from the operation manager to personnel to family members—has the opportunity to understand how biosecurity principles are integrated into their farm and plan for continuous improvement in the future,” according to the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association.

The module provides interactive and real-world best practice examples for topics such as new bull purchases and manure management for reducing feed contamination. As part of the training, producers are able to fill out a “Daily Biosecurity Plan.”
