Penn Vet behavior experts offer online consultations

A new online platform from the University of Pennsylvania’s veterinary medicine school connects pet owners and doctors with the university’s behavior clinical team.

The app won’t replace full, in-person behavior consultations, but it provides an opportunity for pet owners and vets to access a limited resource. According to Penn Vet, fewer than 100 veterinary behavior experts practice in the United States.

Through the Penn Vet Behavior Application, owners can seek consultations, through their primary veterinarian, with the school’s behavior experts. Once the client’s vet has requested a consult through the app and uploaded medical records, owners receive access to upload additional information and videos.

The experts then provide feedback, time-stamped to specific moments in the video, to help owners understand the issue.

Veterinarians can also use the app to assess patients’ behavior and, if necessary, request further consultation with a Penn Vet behavior specialist.
