Newton, Mass., March 10, 2020<\/em> \u2013 As concerns surrounding COVID-19 rise and the human population find themselves at potential risk, the veterinary profession is now seeking immediate continuous care solutions. Today, BabelBark, Inc.<\/a>, a pet-related software developer, announced it is offering veterinary practices across the United States and Canada the ability to use its BabelVet platform, free of charge, to remotely connect with their pet owners and continue veterinary care.<\/p>\n

BabelVet is a comprehensive health dashboard linking veterinarians directly to their pet parents\u2019 phones, medical records, and allowing direct communication between the veterinarian and pet owner using photos, text, and video. This remote monitoring allows at-risk owners to stay home without compromising others\u2019 health and safety and still get medical care for their pets. Pre social distancing guidelines in the wake of COVID-19, clinics are already seeing\u00a0 cancellations and less clients. Dr. Dana Varble, Chief Veterinary Officer of the NAVC, shares, “We are seeing more urgent\/sick patient appointments and fewer wellness exams. There is a sense of urgency to get those sick patients into the vet right away just in case they are not able to in the near future. Most places have cancelled elective surgeries so that we have supplies for emergent\/urgent surgeries in the future in case supplies dwindle.”<\/p>\n

With the spread of COVID-19, communities are preparing and implementing safeguards to reduce contact with the virus. This includes veterinary practices who must ensure both pet owners and staff are safe on a daily basis. BabelVet allows practices to offer a flexible option for staff who may be at risk. Those employees who are highest at risk can work remotely to monitor pet owner health reports. Dr. Varble also adds that, while support staff hours are not being cut yet, many are planning on it due to childcare, decreased need for their presence in the clinic, and social distancing themselves.<\/p>\n
