{"id":14857,"date":"2018-06-12T14:33:43","date_gmt":"2018-06-12T14:33:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/todaysveterinarypractice.com\/?p=14857"},"modified":"2022-02-21T15:34:33","modified_gmt":"2022-02-21T15:34:33","slug":"new-study-shows-promise-for-advancements-in-canine-cancer-treatment","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/navc.sitepreview.app\/todaysveterinarypractice.com\/news\/new-study-shows-promise-for-advancements-in-canine-cancer-treatment\/","title":{"rendered":"New Study Shows Promise for Advancements in Canine Cancer Treatment"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">A new treatment spearheaded by the Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine (VMCVM) has yielded promising results. \u00a0It was announced that a first canine cancer patient is now cancer free after undergoing a new form of treatment.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The research team, led by Clinical Assistant Professor of Radiology Jeffrey Ruth, DVM, investigated focused ultrasound therapy techniques capable of noninvasively destroying tumors and stimulating a dog\u2019s immune system to fight cancer. The team utilized a device developed by Theraclion, one that was originally intended for use in breast and thyroid treatments for humans. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The device, Echopulse\u00ae, was easily adapted for veterinary treatment due to its versatile robotic design. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cThese canine tumors tend to occur on the limbs and may recur if they are not entirely removed.
