Cancer Foundation Opens Nonprofit Natural Pet Store
Stymie Canine Cancer Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit foundation based in Aurora,Colorado, announced plans to open a nonprofit natural pet retail store in Colorado. The revenue generated from the My Buddy & Me Natural Pet Store will fund canine cancer comparative research and cancer treatments. “Canine cancer is the number one killer of our pet dogs, and many pet owners with afflicted animals cannot afford treatment. Career Excellence in Theriogenology Award Recipient
Anita Migday, DVM, Theriogenology Foundation President, recently presented Ralph L. Brinster, VMD, PhD, with the 2012 Career Excellence in Theriogenology Award in recognition of his contributions to the field of reproductive veterinary medicine. His lifetime of research and discovery advanced reproductive biology and genetics. His work with embryonic culture systems, stem cells, and transgenesis—the insertion of new genes into the germ line of a developing organism—has provided valuable insight into the origin and treatment of both animal and human diseases. In 2010, he became the first veterinarian to receive the National Medal of Science from the President of the United States.
Alkaline Hydrolysis System

Insect Growth Regulators Key to Preventing Flea Infestations
To control flea infestations, it is important for pet owners to use a product containing an insect growth regulator (IGR), such as (S)-methoprene, year round. IGRs break the life cycle and prevent immature flea stages from developing into adults. “On an untreated pet, an adult female flea can lay as many as 2,000 eggs during her lifetime,” said Dr. Michael Murray, technical marketing director of U.S. Parasiticides at Merial. Animal-assisted Therapy and Pediatric Cancer Patients
Pfizer Animal Health and the American Humane Association completed the first round of the research study “Canines and Childhood Cancer: Examining the Effects of Therapy Dogs with Childhood Cancer Patients and their Families,” a multi-year effort taking place in hospital settings across the U.S. The study examines the specific medical, behavioral, and mental health benefits animal-assisted therapy (AAT) may have for children with cancer and their families. “Now we begin the important work of validating and quantifying something that we have observed and felt for years through our own experiences—that interaction with animals can provide beneficial effects for people in need of comfort, encouragement, and healing,” said Robin R.
