Dr. Akin is a neurologist/neurosurgeon at Bush Veterinary Neurology Service. Before veterinary school, she spent 5 years working as a chemical/process engineer in a paper mill in rural Alabama. After graduating from the Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine, Dr. Akin completed a rotating small animal medicine and surgery internship at Affiliated Veterinary Specialists in Maitland, Florida, and a residency in neurology/neurosurgery at Auburn University and Mississippi State University. Following her residency, Dr. Akin worked in both academia and private practice. Her clinical interests include intervertebral disc disease, Chiari-like malformation, meningoencephalitis of unknown etiology, and teaching.
