{"id":9864,"date":"2021-02-22T15:06:21","date_gmt":"2021-02-22T23:06:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/todaysveterinarybusiness.com\/?p=9864"},"modified":"2022-06-15T17:47:47","modified_gmt":"2022-06-15T17:47:47","slug":"avma-aaha-telehealth-guidelines","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/navc.sitepreview.app\/todaysveterinarybusiness.com\/avma-aaha-telehealth-guidelines\/","title":{"rendered":"AVMA, AAHA Release Telehealth How-to Guide"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Veterinary hospitals looking to implement virtual care or improve upon what they now provide can access a manual produced by two leading veterinary associations.<\/p>\n<p>The American Veterinary Medical Association and the American Animal Hospital Association unveiled the 2021 AAHA\/AVMA Telehealth Guidelines for Small-Animal Practice at <a href=\"http:\/\/bit.ly\/3dE432G\">bit.ly\/3dE432G<\/a>. The 32-page document supplements the recently released AVMA Guidelines for the Use of Telehealth in Veterinary Practice, which is available at <a href=\"http:\/\/bit.ly\/37DVKji\">bit.ly\/37DVKji<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur profession has been making much progress in seeing wider adoption of technology, especially during the pandemic, and the new AAHA and AVMA guidelines will help practices successfully integrate telehealth into their daily operations,\u201d said AAHA\u2019s deputy CEO, Janice L. Trumpeter, DVM. \u201cWhen done right, connected care is an opportunity to more fully engage and utilize the skill sets of veterinary staff members while increasing attention to customer service and ensuring that we continue to deliver high-quality medical care.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The AVMA\/AAHA guidelines offer step-by-step instructions, from choosing telehealth products and platforms to monetizing telehealth to communicating the benefits of telehealth.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDuring the pandemic, a survey of companion animal practices reported a strong increase in the use of telehealth, from 10% to 30%,\u201d said AVMA President Douglas Kratt, DVM. \u201cTelehealth has supported better and more timely communication with our clients during a time when maintaining physical distance has been critical to their health and the health of the staff in our practices.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBeyond this immediate need, our experience with telehealth has given us insight into the opportunities remote technologies present for integrating AI into our diagnostic workups and ongoing monitoring of our patients, which ultimately will support more timely intervention when their health is challenged.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Funding for the project came from Boehringer Ingelheim Animal Health USA Inc., CareCredit and Merck Animal Health.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>A comprehensive guide to telehealth platforms, by company, <a href=\"https:\/\/todaysveterinarybusiness.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2020\/08\/Download-the-Provider-Directory.pdf\">is available here<\/a>. \u201cWho\u2019s Who in Virtual Care\u201d was published in the August\/September 2020 issue of Today\u2019s Veterinary Business.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><em>Did you know a subscription to Today\u2019s Veterinary Business is free to qualified veterinary professionals?
