{"id":9660,"date":"2021-01-29T11:10:21","date_gmt":"2021-01-29T19:10:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/todaysveterinarybusiness.com\/?p=9660"},"modified":"2022-06-15T17:47:43","modified_gmt":"2022-06-15T17:47:43","slug":"supplement-pet-sales-packaged-facts","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/navc.sitepreview.app\/todaysveterinarybusiness.com\/supplement-pet-sales-packaged-facts\/","title":{"rendered":"Supplement Sales Skyrocket During COVID"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Pet supplement sales exploded in 2020 as the pandemic caused U.S. consumers to focus not only on their own health and wellness but also on that of their dogs and cats, according to a new report from Packaged Facts.<\/p>\n<p>Sales grew by 21%, to nearly $800 million, with the veterinary sector capturing an estimated 46% of the revenue, the largest share.<\/p>\n<p>Packaged Facts found that dog owners spent four times as much as cat owners on pet supplements and that \u201c41% of pet owners are paying closer attention to their pets\u2019 health and wellness because of COVID-19.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The report, \u201cPet Supplements in the U.S., 8th Edition,\u201d was based primarily on national consumer polls and the market research firm\u2019s survey of more than 1,500 pet owners. Functional treats were excluded from the research.<\/p>\n<p>Among other highlights:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Pet supplement sales are projected to rise by about $50 million annually through 2025.<\/li>\n<li>Purchasers are more likely to be supplement takers themselves.<\/li>\n<li>The sale of <a href=\"https:\/\/todaysveterinarybusiness.com\/cbd-101\/\">cannabidiol (CBD) pet products<\/a> reached nearly $100 million in 2020, \u201cabout triple the 2019 sales level.\u201d Just over 20% of dog owners and 10% of cat owners purchased CBD supplements.<\/li>\n<li>Among non-CBD products, supplements formulated for the support of joints and mobility were most popular.<\/li>\n<li>The legality of CBD supplements isn\u2019t of great concern. \u201cForty-eight percent of dog and cat owners (are) interested in purchasing these supplements even if they remain in a legal gray area,\u201d the report stated.<\/li>\n<li>A veterinarian\u2019s recommendation of a specific supplement is the No. 2 purchase influencer after a pet owner\u2019s internet research.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The complete Packaged Facts report is available for purchase at <a href=\"http:\/\/bit.ly\/3pwEsM2\">bit.ly\/3pwEsM2<\/a>.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><em>Did you know a subscription to Today\u2019s Veterinary Business is free to qualified veterinary professionals?
