The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has approved Emeprev Injectable Solution, an in-clinic option indicated for the prevention and treatment of acute vomiting in dogs and the treatment of vomiting in cats. The manufacturer, Dechra, reported that Emeprev (maropitant citrate) requires no refrigeration. It contains benzyl alcohol, a preservative demonstrated to act as a local anesthetic and reduce pain during injection.<\/p>\n

Elanco Rebrands Canine Parvovirus Monoclonal Antibody<\/h3>\n

Elanco Animal Health\u2019s Canine Parvovirus Monoclonal Antibody has received full approval from the U.S. Department of Agriculture for the treatment of canine parvovirus. The product will join Elanco\u2019s Tru portfolio under the new brand name Trutect.<\/p>\n

NAVLE to Undergo Independent Audit<\/h3>\n

The International Council for Veterinary Assessment has agreed to initiate an audit of the North American Veterinary Licensing Examination, which saw a record 9,301 examinations administered during the 2024-25 testing cycle. According to the ICVA, \u201cRecently, members of the veterinary community have raised questions around how the NAVLE is developed, administered and scored. To ensure the NAVLE continues to be a fair and impartial assessment of candidates\u2019 entry-level knowledge, skills and abilities, we have made the decision to initiate an audit of the examination.\u201d<\/p>\n

Embrace Exceeds $1 Billion in Insurance Payouts<\/h3>\n

Embrace Pet Insurance has surpassed $1 billion in veterinary claim reimbursements. The Ohio company has processed over 6.6 million claims since 2003. According to Embrace, the largest claim covered was $48,534 for a toy-sized mixed-breed dog treated for aspiration pneumonia and a heart murmur in 2023.<\/p>\n

Purina Donates to 5 Veterinary Schools<\/h3>\n

Pet food maker Nestl\u00e9 Purina PetCare has made donations to five U.S. veterinary schools to support research and scientific developments in areas such as nutrition, dermatology, cognition and canine performance. The donation amounts were not announced. The recipients are the University of Pennsylvania, Auburn University, the University of Florida, Colorado State University and Cornell University.<\/p>\n

Wynwood Dog Food Co. plans to open a 13,000-square-foot production facility in Miami\u2019s Allapattah neighborhood. \u201cThe new factory marks a major milestone for the company as it prepares for national expansion,\u201d Wynwood reported. Set to open in early 2027, the new space will support the growth of Wynwood\u2019s Fresh Rx prescription diets and its Complete & Balanced everyday meals.<\/p>\n
