{"id":5120,"date":"2019-03-27T08:52:56","date_gmt":"2019-03-27T15:52:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/todaysveterinarybusiness.com\/?p=5120"},"modified":"2022-03-15T20:37:59","modified_gmt":"2022-03-15T20:37:59","slug":"houston-hospital-rebounds-from-2017-hurricane","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/navc.sitepreview.app\/todaysveterinarybusiness.com\/houston-hospital-rebounds-from-2017-hurricane\/","title":{"rendered":"Houston Hospital Rebounds from 2017 Hurricane"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As promised, Gulf Coast Veterinary Specialists is \u201cbigger and better and stronger\u201d less than two years after Hurricane Harvey destroyed the Houston hospital.<\/p>\n<p>The practice, which sees more than 50,000 patients a year, has opened a 50,292-square-foot hospital about three miles away from the old location, which was wiped out by floodwaters.<\/p>\n<p>The new hospital, part of the <a href=\"https:\/\/todaysveterinarynurse.com\/articles\/compassion-first-drives-career-growth-for-non-credentialed-veterinary-technicians-and-assistants\/\">Compassion-First Pet Hospital<\/a> network, employs more than 50 veterinarians, including 30 board-certified specialists, and more than 200 support staff.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are finally at a stage where we can actually celebrate,\u201d said Ryan Buck, group president with Compassion-First\u2019s Texas hospitals. \u201cWhile we have continued to provide care to the area pets, our people have been displaced and it is an important moment for us to all be under one roof.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Soon after Hurricane Harvey devastated southern Texas in August 2017, hospital founder Wayne Whitney, DVM, DACVS, told employees: \u201cGulf Coast Veterinary Specialists is not a building, it\u2019s you, the people who work here. <a href=\"https:\/\/todaysveterinarybusiness.com\/uncharted-waters\/\">We will be back, bigger and better and stronger<\/a>, and you are part of that.
