A friend reminded me that wood \u2014 an object of strength and\u00a0 durability \u2014 is the traditional gift when a relationship reaches five years. That deep-rooted symbolism seems fitting when I think of the sprouting of Today\u2019s Veterinary Business<\/em>.<\/p>\n

When this journal launched five years ago this month, we vowed in an introductory letter \u201cto provide diverse, interesting and relevant content in every issue … to help you with your veterinary business.\u201d I must say, thinking about your feedback and loyalty, that we delivered on that promise. Several dozen awards, starting with Today\u2019s Veterinary Business<\/em> being named \u201cBest New Magazine\u201d by the Florida Magazine Association, validate the high level of journalism we practice.<\/p>\n

When someone asks me what makes this journal so special, I always credit the writers, nearly all of whom work full time in the veterinary profession and are recognized experts in their chosen specialties. Keeping a finger on the pulse of the industry, they know from one month to the next what\u2019s trending, what matters to our 55,000 subscribers, and what many of you desire to learn to help build your business and enhance your life away from work.<\/p>\n

While the number of columns and their variety have grown over the years \u2014 from 13 regular features in 2017 to 17 today \u2014 I\u2019d be remiss not to recognize the nine columnists who trusted me when I invited them to join a start-up magazine and who are still here. So, a huge \u201cthank you\u201d to Dr. Ed Branam<\/a>, Mark Cushing<\/a>, Trey Cutler<\/a>, Dr. Amanda Donnelly<\/a>, Dr. Bob Lester<\/a>, Leslie Mamalis<\/a>, Dr. Natalie Marks<\/a>, Dr. Jeff Thoren<\/a> and Sandy Walsh<\/a>.<\/p>\n

This issue is the 31st in our history and the first with a \u201cbest of\u201d feature. Starting on Page 44, you\u2019ll meet a number of high-achieving female veterinarians \u2014 22 for 2022 \u2014 and learn about their personal lives and their advice to the younger generation.<\/p>\n
