Today’s Veterinary Business Staff

Following the success of a pilot clinic in suburban Atlanta, Walmart has announced plans to open five more Walmart Pet Services centers. The new offices will be in Cummings and Alpharetta, Georgia, and in Glendale, Chandler and Mesa, Arizona.
Veterinary services will include vaccines, wellness exams and minor medical procedures. Grooming, including baths, nail trims, teeth cleaning, ear cleaning and basic hair trims, will also be offered.
“Walmart understands that pets are family, and we’re proud to be a trusted destination for our pet parents,” said Kaitlyn Shadiow, vice president of pet merchandising for Walmart U.S.
The company will offer two other pet-related services:
- Walmart+ members will have free, unlimited telehealth access to the Pawp team of veterinary professionals through text or video.
- Walmart will deliver customers’ pet prescriptions to their door.
“Whether shopping in stores or online, Walmart offers a differentiated omnichannel experience and a wide assortment of offerings, from products and prescriptions to services, available at our everyday low prices to make pet care affordable and convenient,” Shadiow said.
The retail behemoth plans to operate the veterinary clinics in collaboration with PetIQ, which recently closed 282 in-store practices, including at Walmart.
PetIQ was recently acquired by the equity firm Bansk and had reported difficulty finding enough veterinarians to staff its clinics.
