AAVMC Hires New Chief Executive
Dr. Stuart Reid, the president and principal of Royal Veterinary College in London, has been named CEO of the American Association of Veterinary Medical Colleges. His appointment is effective Aug. 1, 2025. Dr. Reid replaces Dr. Andrew Maccabe, now with Mars Veterinary Health.
Terravet Partners With Ethos on Specialty Practice
Terravet Real Estate Solutions has converted a former furniture store in Roseville, California, into a 31,000-square-foot specialty hospital. Terravet reported investing $14.5 million to buy the building and retrofit the space, with an additional investment from the hospital’s owner, Ethos Veterinary Health. The suburban Sacramento practice previously occupied a 4,300-square-foot building under the name Atlantic Street Pet Emergency Center. It’s now known as Veterinary Specialty Hospital Roseville and is part of Terravet’s Fund III, which owns over 100 properties.
CityVet Crosses 50-Clinic Milestone
The CityVet network has grown to 51 practices with new clinics in Frisco, Texas; Surprise, Arizona; and Roswell, Georgia. The first two opened on Nov. 4. The Georgia location, the fourth in the greater Atlanta area, is scheduled to debut on Nov. 11 under the leadership and co-ownership of Dr. Andrew Raskin, a 2015 graduate of the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine.
Allivet Online Pharmacy Finds a New Owner
Rural lifestyle retailer Tractor Supply Co. has agreed to acquire Allivet, a privately held online pet pharmacy. “The acquisition of Allivet will complement and strengthen Tractor Supply’s portfolio offering for companion animals, equestrian and livestock customers and unlock new opportunities for growth,” the buyer stated. “This acquisition will also allow the company to introduce a convenient, low-cost pet and animal pharmacy solution for its 37 million Neighbor’s Club members.” Terms were not disclosed.
Merck Unveils More Handheld RFID Readers
Merck Animal Health has released a new series of ALLFLEX APR handheld RFID readers designed for livestock producers. The top-of-the-line model, APR650, stores up to 1 million records and can be connected remotely to a producer’s office.
New: blendVET Certificate Program
The North American Veterinary Community, publisher of Today’s Veterinary Business, is teaming up with blendVET to offer the blendVET Certificate Program. The initiative is designed to help veterinary professionals create more inclusive and supportive workplaces. NAVC will offer five RACE-approved programs for free to VetFolio subscribers, with the option for non-subscribers to purchase the courses.
Schwarzman Hires 13 Board-Certified Veterinarians
New York’s Schwarzman Animal Medical Center has hired 13 senior veterinarians, adding to its team of more than 140 doctors across 20-plus specialties. The Level 1 trauma hospital’s new board-certified employees are Drs. Erin Achilles, Heather Ashcraft, Chanel Berns, Mariel Covo, Robin Doherty, Nicole Dowgos, Ezra Frager, Theresa Langlois, Whitney Phipps, Frank Tsai, Ria Watko, Jessica Wild and Andrea Winkel.
