Vetcor, which operates more than 840 veterinary hospitals in the United States and Canada, has selected Covetrus as its primary partner for in-clinic veterinary products. “Many Vetcor practices have adopted Covetrus’ prescription management software,” reported Covetrus, which sells to more than 100,000 customers worldwide.
IndeVets Hires Veterinarian Social Worker
The staffing agency IndeVets has hired Dave Shuey, a licensed master social worker and former registered veterinary technician, as its veterinarian social worker. “Dave will be working with IndeVets to create and provide wellness education, support and resources for the IndeVets community as they navigate the inevitable hazards of the veterinary profession,” the company stated. “He’ll be working to increase veterinarians’ professional health and fulfillment and longevity in the profession.”
Librela and Apoquel Chewable Reach U.S. Market
Two Zoetis medications — Librela (bedinvetmab injection) and Apoquel Chewable (oclacitinib chewable tablet) — are available for purchase in the United States. Librela is a once-a-month injectable anti-NGF monoclonal antibody treatment to control canine osteoarthritis pain. Apoquel Chewable is a chewable treatment for the control of pruritus associated with allergic dermatitis and control of atopic dermatitis in dogs.
Chewy Offers Symptom Checker for Pet Owners
Online retailer Chewy has launched Symptom Checker, a free digital tool designed to answer consumer questions about pet health issues. “Covering more than 50 symptoms for dogs and cats, the tool is a comprehensive resource that represents 90% of typical vet visits and over 300 triage pathways,” Chewy reported. Symptom Checker also offers more than 400 curated PetMD articles.
Wednesday Is World Pet Obesity Awareness Day
The Association for Pet Obesity Prevention and the World Pet Obesity Association announced that Oct. 11, 2023, is World Pet Obesity Awareness Day. “One of the biggest challenges veterinarians in every country face is getting pet owners to recognize when their pets are overweight or have obesity,” said Dr. Ernie Ward, the founder and president of the Association for Pet Obesity Prevention. “This is why it’s so critical for veterinary professionals to discuss healthy weight with their clients and for pet owners to be proactive about their pets’ health.”
Auto DX Alerts Share Good News With Clients
Patterson Veterinary Supply has launched an application that automatically notifies veterinary clients when a pet’s fecal or heartworm test is negative. “Rather than tell clients, ‘No news is good news,’ we want to provide vets with a more personalized way to close the communication loop with clients,” said Christal Hahn, Patterson’s director of commercial software. “With Auto DX Alerts, veterinarians are able to customize a text message that will only send to pet owners if the system pulls a negative result.”

New York’s Schwarzman Animal Medical Center installed a Magnetom Sola 1.5T MRI. The machine, made by Siemens Healthineers, features BioMatrix Technology, which “automatically adjusts to a patient’s anatomical and physiological differences to overcome unwanted variations in MRI examinations,” according to the manufacturer.
Emergency Practice Opens 24/7 Hospital in Massachusetts
Veterinary Emergency & Specialty Hospital opened its newest location in West Springfield, Massachusetts. The 12,000-square-foot practice is open around the clock and offers services ranging from a helical CT, endoscopy and ultrasound to digital radiology, an intensive care unit and an in-house laboratory.
