VIP Acquires Valley Veterinary Care
Veterinary Innovative Partners has grown to nearly 70 hospitals following the company’s acquisition of Valley Veterinary Care and Valley’s 24 clinics in Texas, California and Colorado. Terms were not disclosed. All Valley Veterinary Care general and emergency practices will continue to operate under their legacy names, VIP stated.
Clemson Prepares for Possible 2026 Opening
Clemson University, which hopes to welcome its inaugural class of veterinary students in fall 2026, has released its proposed curriculum and admissions requirements at bit.ly/3RZZMd5. The College of Veterinary Medicine is seeking accreditation through the American Veterinary Medical Association’s Council on Education. According to Clemson, “The first three years of the curriculum will be conducted on the new, state-of-the-art Clemson CVM campus. The fourth year will allow students to become a part of their surrounding communities through clinical clerkships.”
Entering Georgia, CityVet Celebrates 40th Location
The CityVet hospital network is expanding into Georgia with the scheduled July 15 opening of a clinic in the Atlanta suburb of Chamblee. The managing veterinarian will be 2004 University of Georgia graduate Dr. Kelly Bradley. Dallas-based CityVet operates 40 veterinarian-owned practices.
N.J. Dentistry Practice Opens Its Fourth Clinic
Veterinary Dentistry Specialists has its fourth location with the opening of a clinic in Madison, New Jersey. VDS promotes itself as “the only dentistry practice in the nation where board-certified veterinary specialists in dentistry and anesthesiology work together with each patient to ensure optimal care.” The new clinic’s co-owner and medical director is board-certified dentist Dr. Ellen Scherer.
Texas Tech Gets a Mobile Veterinary Clinic
The Texas Tech University School of Veterinary Medicine is operating a new mobile unit called Community and Regional Engagement Service (CARES). According to Texas Tech, gifts from the Louise Bowers Slentz Foundation Fund and the Amber Fund allowed the school “to custom-build this vehicle to provide and supply veterinary care to animals and pet owners in underserved communities of Amarillo, the Texas Panhandle and beyond.”
Cerba Vet and Antagene Are Officially in Mars’ Orbit
Mars Inc., owner of Banfield, VCA and BluePearl veterinary hospitals, completed its previously announced acquisition of Cerba HealthCare’s ownership stake in Cerba Vet and Antagene. Terms were not disclosed. The two European companies “now complement the diagnostics portfolio in Mars Petcare’s Science and Diagnostics Division,” Mars reported.
UAE Practice Earns Fear Free Designation
Abu Dhabi’s German Veterinary Clinic has become the first practice in the United Arab Emirates to achieve Fear Free Certified Veterinary Practice status. Fear Free is dedicated to preventing and alleviating fear, anxiety, and stress in pets.
Roo Relief Platform Passes $100 Million Milestone
Roo, which pairs relief veterinarians with clinics, has paid out over $100 million to veterinarians since 2019. “Due to the high demand for relief veterinarians, Roo veterinarians earn nearly double the hourly rate of the average full-time vet, with an average day rate of $1,240 for a nine-hour shift,” the company stated.
Vermont Manager Is VHMA Award Winner
Joshua Blakemore has been named the Veterinary Hospital Managers Association’s 2024 Practice Manager of the Year. He works at Onion River Animal Hospital in Burlington, Vermont.
Hill’s Appoints U.S. President and GM
Hill’s Pet Nutrition has promoted Yvonne Hsu to U.S. president and general manager. She most recently served as executive vice president of global innovation and growth, overseeing the pet food company’s brands, innovation, digital transformation and analytics.
