AAHA Launches Search for New CEO
Garth Jordan is leaving the American Animal Hospital Association after serving as its CEO for five years. Dr. Guylaine Charette, a past president of AAHA, will be the interim CEO. The reason for Jordan’s departure was not disclosed. The organization credited him with expanding AAHA accreditation to Asia, “establishing the organization’s standards and practices in Japan, South Korea and China.”
NAPHIA Selects MSP as Management Partner
Maryland-based Management Solutions Plus will assume management of the North American Pet Health Insurance Association upon NAPHIA executive director Kristen Lynch’s retirement on Aug. 1. MSP’s duties will include strategic planning, governance, membership engagement, communications, sponsorship sales and event management.
Scribenote Offers Free AI Tools

CityVet Expands Its Phoenix Footprint
CityVet will open its 61st clinic, Lone Mountain, on June 30 in Peoria, Arizona. The location is CityVet’s fourth in the Phoenix area. The clinic’s owner-operator is Dr. Kelsey Hall, an Oklahoma State University graduate.
Former Ceva Executive Joins Brakke
Brakke Consulting has hired Dr. Charles Johnson as a senior consultant. According to Brakke, Dr. Johnson completed an executive MBA program at the University of Wisconsin and most recently was a senior director of corporate alliances at Ceva Animal Health. He previously worked as an equine veterinarian and practice owner specializing in Thoroughbred and sport horse breeding, sales and sports medicine.
Trupanion Identifies Appreciation Day Winners
Pet health insurer Trupanion has revealed its 2025 Veterinary Appreciation Day award winners. Among the regional Veterinarians of the Year, selected in a public vote, were Dr. Yafen Zhen of VCA San Martin Animal Hospital in San Martin, California; Dr. Jeffrey Baranack of West Side Animal Hospital in Alliance, Ohio; Dr. Katherine Wheeler of Back Bay Veterinary Clinic in Boston; Dr. Caitlin Townes of Paulding Animal Clinic in Dallas, Georgia; Dr. Jody McMurray of Heartland Veterinary Clinic in Airdrie, Alberta, Canada; and Dr. Deirdra Johnson of CBS Animal Hospital in Conception Bay South, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada.
Dechra Employees Raise $17,000 for NOMV
Employees at pharmaceutical maker Dechra have raised almost $17,000 in support of suicide prevention and the well-being of veterinary professionals. The campaign, now in its third year globally and fifth in the United States, was part of Not One More Vet’s Race Around the World initiative.
Relief Vets Invited to Take Burnout Survey
The veterinary relief management platform Serenity Vet has launched a survey to investigate burnout among locum veterinarians. Study partners include Talkatoo, a provider of voice-to-text and AI productivity solutions, and Galaxy Vets CEO Dr. Ivan Zak, who led several veterinary burnout studies. 4 Veterinarians Receive ACVIM Recognition Awards
The American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine presented four Recognition Awards during the 2025 ACVIM Forum in Louisville, Kentucky. The winners were Dr. Joan R. Coates, a professor of veterinary neurology and neurosurgery at the University of Missouri College of Veterinary Medicine (Robert W. Kirk Award for Professional Excellence); Dr. Wendy A. Ware, professor emerita at the Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine (Lee and Inge Pyle Service Award); Dr. Raelene M. Wouda, a veterinary oncologist at Veterinary Specialist Services of Queensland in Australia (William R. Fenner Early Career Award for Outstanding Service); and Dr. Warwick M. Bayly, a professor of equine medicine at the Washington State University College of Veterinary Medicine (Specialty Lifetime Achievement Award).
Mars and BluePearl Launch Dual Blood Drives
Mars Veterinary Health and the American Red Cross have announced a blood drive aimed at addressing the critical need for blood donations in veterinary medicine and human health. The inaugural event will take place in Franklin, Tennessee, on July 10. Mars Veterinary Health employees can donate blood while their pets are screened as potential donors. Mars-owned BluePearl Pet Hospital, which operates a nationwide veterinary blood bank, will host the pet screening.
