Inaugural Texas Tech Class Hits Job Market
The Texas Tech University School of Veterinary Medicine graduated its first class of DVM students. One-third of the 61 graduates are first-generation students, 95% will work in rural and regional communities, and 69% were hired by clinical-year practice partners. Texas Gov. Greg Abbott was among the commencement speakers.
4 Texas A&M Students Earn Dual Degrees
Four students comprised Texas A&M University’s first cohort to graduate with VPHE-DVM combination degrees (master of science in veterinary public health and epidemiology and doctor of veterinary medicine). They are Drs. Luke Gibson, Molly Guyette, Kaitlin Thompson and Lindsey Walker. According to Texas A&M, the program “trains students to integrate knowledge from both disciplines into their veterinary careers or advance to careers in local, state, federal and international public health agencies and academia.”
Amazon Offers Pet Drugs From Vetsource
Online retail giant Amazon has started selling prescription pet medications through Vetsource. Amazon advised customers: “Add your pet’s prescription to your cart. At checkout, input your prescribing veterinarian’s information — and once approved by your veterinarian, eligible prescriptions will ship from one of Vetsource’s U.S. pharmacy locations.”
VHMA Schedules New Orleans Conference

New Veterinary Specialties Are Proposed
The American Board of Veterinary Specialties is accepting public comments on a proposal to add specialties in acupuncture and embryo transfer. The specialty organizations are the American Board of Veterinary Acupuncture and the American Embryo Transfer Association. Details are at bit.ly/3YUQzGy. Austin Practice Gets a New Name and Home
Research Boulevard Pet & Bird Hospital in Austin, Texas, has rebranded as Austin Pet & Exotic Hospital. Practice owner Thrive Pet Healthcare moved the hospital to a 5,366-square-foot building, nearly double the size of the former location.
Royal Canin Unveils Pet Food Plant
Mars Inc. has opened a $450 million plant in Lewisburg, Ohio, to produce Royal Canin pet food. According to the company, the 450,000-square-foot facility in suburban Dayton will support up to 270 new full-time jobs over the next five years “and produce enough dry pet food to feed 4 million pets annually.”
PetDesk Releases AI Scribe Product
The client communication platform PetDesk now offers PetDesk Scribe, an AI-powered transcription tool that automatically records and transcribes SOAP notes and client summaries.
PetVivo to Launch AI ‘Ecosystem’
PetVivo Animal Health has scheduled the May 23 launch of AgenticPet.ai, which the company described as “the world’s first autonomous pet care AI ecosystem.” Among the features, or “agents,” are veterinary diagnostics, behavioral analysis, nutritional advice and emotional wellness evaluation.
Petfolk Commits to Radimal for Teleradiology
Petfolk, which operates nearly three dozen veterinary practices in seven states, has selected Radimal as the exclusive provider of teleradiology services. “All Petfolk clinics now use Radimal’s AI to triage and assess radiographs, with additional support from Radimal’s team of board-certified specialists,” the network stated.
