New Equine Guide Focuses on Client Relations
The American Veterinary Medical Association and the American Association of Equine Practitioners teamed up to release the “Effective Equine Care Guide,” a free resource for improving interactions between veterinary teams and horse owners. “Through open communication and mutual respect, this guide will empower both veterinary professionals and horse owners, leading not just to healthier horses but also stronger, more positive relationships in our professional lives,” said AVMA President Dr. Rena Carlson. Texas A&M Team Heads to Fire-Ravaged Area
The Texas A&M Veterinary Emergency Team deployed to the Texas Panhandle to assist animals affected by a 1.3-million-acre wildfire. “The team’s mission includes providing veterinary care in support of 12 search and rescue dogs deployed with Texas A&M Texas Task Force 1 and to resident animals while also supporting local shelters,” the university reported. The team comprises faculty, staff and students from the School of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences.
Petco Love Helps Fund Technician Education
The nonprofit organization Petco Love launched the Petco Love Registered Veterinary Technician Scholarship Fund in cooperation with the online Penn Foster College. The initiative aims to increase the number of registered technicians serving shelter animals and low-income pet owners.
BluePearl Opens Pittsburgh-Area Hospital
Emergency and specialty care provider BluePearl opened its newest veterinary hospital in Monroeville, Pennsylvania. The 11,343-square-foot hospital near Pittsburgh is initially staffed by a surgeon, two technicians, two veterinary assistants and two client service representatives. Additional veterinarians will be hired as the services expand.
Wedgewood to Build Larger Arizona Pharmacy
Veterinary drug compounder Wedgewood broke ground on a 90,000-square-foot pharmacy in Chandler, Arizona. The location is expected to open in early 2025 and support 250 jobs by 2027. It will replace a 25,000-square-foot pharmacy in Scottsdale, Arizona.
UC Davis to Offer ACVIM Fellowship
The UC Davis Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital will host a training opportunity under the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine’s new Fellowship Program. The first fellowship at UC Davis will be in infectious diseases.
MiDOG Targets Additional Animal Species
MiDOG Animal Diagnostics, a developer of microbiome-based solutions in veterinary care, is rebranding from an emphasis on canine diagnostics to adapting MiDOG’s technology across all animal species. The All-in-One Diagnostic Test detects bacterial and fungal pathogens in any clinical sample.

Neogen Corp. introduced the Provecta Pro Flea and Tick Collar for Dogs. According to the company, the collar’s active ingredients, deltamethrin and IGR (S)-methoprene, protect against fleas, ticks and mosquitoes for six months.

The Bridge Club, a networking group, partnered with Chewy Health during a WVC gathering to raise $10,575 for the nonprofit Veterinary Industry Giving Tree. The charity provides financial assistance to veterinary professionals and their families during times of need.
