AVMF Gets $1 Million From Purina
Purina Pro Plan Veterinary Diets donated $1 million to the American Veterinary Medical Foundation’s REACH program, which provides grants to veterinarians whose clients have trouble paying for medical care. The donation is part of the new Pro Plan Veterinary Support Mission.
New Diets Coming From Hill’s
Hill’s Pet Nutrition will introduce two Prescription Diet products in the coming months: z/d Low Fat Hydrolyzed Soy Canine, for avoiding adverse food reactions and promoting healthy skin in dogs with food and fat sensitivities, and c/d Multicare Low Fat Canine, for managing dogs with fat sensitivities and supporting their urinary health. In addition, c/d Multicare Stress Feline will come in three new wet flavors: tuna, chicken, and vegetable and tuna.
Ceva Acquires Scout Bio
Ceva Animal Health acquired the Philadelphia biotechnology company Scout Bio. Terms were not disclosed. According to France-based Ceva, “The move represents a significant leap in innovation for Ceva, unlocking access to key advancements including a pipeline of monoclonal antibodies and gene therapy developments to address chronic diseases in pets.”
VPS Makes a Deal With Mars
Veterinary Pharmaceutical Solutions acquired contract manufacturer Diamond Animal Health from Mars Corp. Terms were not disclosed. “This is a strategic move that expands VPS’s position beyond its status as the market leader in livestock pharmacy compounding,” the Minnesota-based company stated.
AMC Opens Institute for Surgical Care
The Stephen and Christine Schwarzman Animal Medical Center unveiled the 7,000-square-foot Denise and Michael Kellen Institute for Surgical Care. The project was part of the New York City hospital’s ongoing $125 million expansion. The surgical institute features five operating rooms, a minor procedure room, and a recovery room separating dogs and cats.
Instinct Science Buys VetMedux
VetMedux, the publisher of Clinician’s Brief and Plumb’s Veterinary Drugs, was acquired by Instinct Science, a provider of workflow and practice management software. Terms were not disclosed. “VetMedux founder Elizabeth Green will join Instinct’s management team and continue to lead as president of VetMedux,” the companies reported. Instinct’s founder and CEO is veterinarian Dr. Caleb Frankel.
WSAVA Partners With The Farmer’s Dog
Pet food maker The Farmer’s Dog became a Diamond Partner of the World Small Animal Veterinary Association. The Farmer’s Dog will participate in WSAVA’s Professional Wellness Group and three new committees: the Non-Clinical Working Group, the Advancement of the Veterinarian-Led Team and Essential Standards for Companion Animal Veterinary Practices.
Lintbells Earns B Corp Recognition
Pet supplements maker Lintbells achieved B Corp status, an international certification of the company’s high level of social and environmental performance, transparency and accountability. Lintbells reported it is “one of only 11 companies globally within the pet care sector to be awarded B Corp certification.”
Inventory Ally Works With Shepherd PIMS
Inventory Ally, a cloud software designed to reduce inventory costs and streamline processes, now integrates with Shepherd Veterinary Software. “Shepherd users can activate the Inventory Ally integration and enjoy a two-week free trial,” the companies stated.
Animal Dermatology Group Expands
Animal Dermatology Group of Irvine, California, completed its acquisition of Golden Gate Veterinary Specialists, a Northern California practice founded by Dr. Nicole Eckholm. Terms were not disclosed.
BluePearl and Banfield Hire New CMOs
BluePearl Pet Hospital promoted Dr. Richard Stone to chief medical officer, replacing Dr. Jimmy Barr, who took a CMO role with Mars Science and Diagnostics. Another Mars Corp. subsidiary, Banfield Pet Hospital, hired Dr. Alea Harrison as chief medical officer.
New From Idexx: Cellular Analyzer
Idexx Laboratories Inc. plans to launch the inVue Dx Cellular Analyzer in late 2024. The slide-free, point-of-care machine is designed to detect the most common cytologic changes found in ear and blood samples within 10 minutes.
