Today’s Veterinary Business Staff

Dr. Temple Grandin, a well-known animal behaviorist, academic and author, has joined the Fear Free organization as the director of animal well-being. She will continue her work as a professor of animal science at Colorado State University.
“Her expertise and passion will undoubtedly enhance our efforts to provide exceptional care for animals, especially large animals,” said Fear Free’s founder, Dr. Marty Becker.
As an advisory group member, Dr. Grandin said her first goal is to find innovative methods to incorporate Fear Free techniques into the handling of farm animals.
“I love animals and have dedicated my life to improving the lives of all animals, but I’m also a scientist who looks at scientific studies to validate products and procedures,” Dr. Grandin said. “I appreciate that Fear Free is a science-based company and look forward to doing more research with them.”
Fear Free teaches veterinary and pet professionals, animal welfare advocates and pet owners to look after a pet’s physical and emotional well-being, with the goal of reducing fear, anxiety and stress in a variety of situations.
Dr. Grandin said she is interested in ensuring that animals used for food and fiber live a “life worth living.”
She has driven positive changes in the livestock industry through her curved chute system and her publications on grazing animal behaviors.
