Stacy Anderson, DVM, Ph.D., DACVS, has been promoted to dean of the Lincoln Memorial University College of Veterinary Medicine, replacing Jason W. Johnson, DVM, MS, DACT, who accepted a job with Idexx Laboratories.
Dr. Anderson was associate dean for academic affairs when she was elevated to the dean’s position. She previously was director of large animal clinical skills and associate professor of large animal surgery. She also led the reviewing and revising of the college’s preclinical curriculum.
“Dr. Anderson has a passion for veterinary education and is dedicated to the CVM’s mission of producing confident, competent Day One veterinarians,” said university President Clayton Hess, Ph.D. “Over the last five years she has implemented new initiatives, developed innovative curriculum and had a positive impact on our students, faculty and staff. We look forward to her leadership in training future veterinarians in Appalachia and beyond.”
The Lincoln Memorial veterinary college opened in 2014 in Harrogate, Tennessee. Dr. Johnson took over from founding dean Glen Hoffsis, DVM, MS, DACVIM, in 2016.
“Though the years I have watched Dr. Stacy Anderson grow and I have recognized that she is a natural-born leader,” Dr. Johnson said.
“She possesses a true passion and innate skill to innovate and advance veterinary education, not only at LMU but within all veterinary academia. I am super excited to watch the lasting impact that she will have on education.”
Dr. Johnson left LMU to become vice president and global chief medical officer at Idexx. He still serves on the college’s advisory board.
Lincoln Memorial reported that Dr. Anderson’s parents are retired swine veterinarians. Her father, Brad Thacker, DVM, MS, Ph.D., worked in academia and industry, and her mother, Eileen Thacker, DVM, Ph.D., DACVM, was an Iowa State University researcher focused on swine respiratory diseases.
“As I move into this new role, I plan to continue Dr. Johnson’s vision forward to be a leader in bringing innovation to veterinary medical education,” their daughter said.
In other news, Lincoln Memorial presented the Distinguished Service Award to Bob Lester, DVM, and John Weale, DVM.
Dr. Lester, a Today’s Veterinary Business columnist, is a founding member of the veterinary college, where he served as assistant dean of clinical relations, and is the current chief medical officer at WellHaven Pet Health.
Dr. Weale is a former Ohio practice owner and past associate dean of clinical relations and outreach at LMU.
