Today’s Veterinary Business Staff

Puerto Rico’s first veterinary college is accepting student applications to join the inaugural class beginning in August 2024.
The Ana G. Mendez University School of Veterinary Medicine secured a letter of reasonable assurance of accreditation from the American Veterinary Medical Association’s Council on Education.
According to the university, students can expect to pay $280,000 in tuition over four years. Clinical rotations in the last year will occur on the Gurabo campus or at affiliate institutions. The Puerto Rico program has agreements with Kansas State University, Michigan State University, Oregon State University, Purdue University, the University of Florida and the University of Missouri.
The School of Veterinary Medicine’s 280,000-square-foot home contains anatomy, pathology, and diagnostic imaging laboratories, surgery suites, and a teaching hospital. Veterinary students can use research laboratories and libraries across the Gurabo campus.
The privately operated university began developing the DVM program in 2017. A COE consultative visit took place in February 2022.
Among the requirements for admission are:
- Bachelor’s degree in an area related to veterinary medicine.
- At least a “C” grade in all required courses.
- Minimum 3.0 grade-point average.
- Proof of English competency.
- Minimum 300 hours of veterinary professional experience.
- Three recommendation letters.
