New Pet Health Insurer Makes Strides
Kanguro Insurance reported selling more than 1,000 pet health insurance policies since the company’s launch in September 2022. Kanguro operates in 17 states: Arkansas, Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Kansas, North Carolina, Nebraska, New Mexico, Nevada, Oklahoma, Oregon, Texas, Utah and Wyoming. The Miami-based insurer’s customer service representatives are bilingual in English and Spanish.
AVMA Publishes the “Positive Pet Care Guide”
The American Veterinary Medical Association partnered with Banfield Pet Hospital and other companies and organizations to produce the “Positive Pet Care Guide.” The publication, available for download at bit.ly/3oh8Hee, emerged from a survey that found more than 80% of pet owners and 90% of veterinarians want to build stronger, more positive relationships with one another. “Nine out of 10 veterinarians indicate they experienced negative or escalated client interactions in the past year, with 65% saying it happened on a weekly basis,” Banfield reported. “Upon reflection, nearly half of veterinary professionals and almost all pet owners (96%) indicated that they wished they could redo and approach the conversation differently after negative or escalated interactions to help create a more positive outcome.”

CityVet Sets Its Sights on Atlanta
CityVet, a Dallas-based network of 28 veterinarian-owned practices, wants to break into metropolitan Atlanta. “As we expand, we are looking at new markets based on where we see consumer and veterinarian demand,” CEO David Boguslawski said. Veterinarian Dr. Chip Cannon founded the company in 1999.

Pet Poison Helpline established a direct link to Thrive Pet Healthcare and the national practice’s 400 locations. The partnership gives Thrive’s 10,000 veterinary professionals around-the-clock access to animal poison control experts.
LifeLearn Outlines New York Buoy’s Law
LifeLearn Animal Health introduced a free infographic to help New York veterinary practices comply with Buoy’s Law. “Similar to consultation requirements mandated for California veterinarians under Lizzie’s Law, Buoy’s Law will require New York State veterinarians to provide consultation to pet owners (or a designated agent) every time a pet medication is initially provided or prescribed in an outpatient setting,” LifeLearn reported. AAHA Publishes “Lead to Thrive”
The American Animal Hospital Association is taking preorders for “Lead to Thrive: The Science of Crafting a Positive Veterinary Culture,” a book by industry consultant Josh Vaisman. He is the founder of Flourish Veterinary Consulting and an occasional contributor to Today’s Veterinary Business. “Lead to Thrive,” in print and audiobook, will be available exclusively through AAHA’s online store starting May 22.
N.J. Dental Practice Makes History
The Mount Laurel, New Jersey, office of Veterinary Dentistry Specialists reported becoming “the first and only veterinary dentistry and oral surgery practice in the nation with anesthesiology and cardiology specialists available to care for each patient.” The newest hire is Megan King, VMD, DACVIM (Cardiology), who served a two-year residency in cardiology at Red Bank Veterinary Hospital.
