Ohio State and Lincoln Memorial universities are answering the call for more practice-ready veterinarians.
The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine on June 1 opened the Frank Stanton Veterinary Spectrum of Care Clinic, a 35,000-square-foot building focused on clinical training of DVM students and teaching business and communication skills.
“The spectrum of care concept aims to address the growing problem of affordability of veterinary care by providing a continuum of acceptable care that considers available evidence-based medicine while remaining responsive to client expectations and financial limitations, thereby successfully serving an economically diverse clientele,” said the college’s dean, Rustin Moore, DVM, Ph.D., DACVS.
The clinic took a year to complete and was funded by a gift from the Stanton Foundation.
“This is another way the college hopes to provide a much broader private-practice experience for students, ultimately producing practice-ready graduates who are highly sought after by employers upon graduation,” OSU stated.
The Lincoln Memorial University College of Veterinary Medicine, meanwhile, broke ground in late May on the Veterinary Education and Technology (VET) building, located at the DeBusk Veterinary Teaching Center in Ewing, Virginia.
VET will provide more space for didactic instruction, clinical skills and research, the university reported. Pre-veterinary and veterinary technician students also will use the building.
“The new VET building is going to allow for expansion of all veterinary-related programs at LMU CVM,” said Stacy Anderson, DVM, Ph.D., DACVS, dean of the College of Veterinary Medicine. “The veterinary profession is desperate for more professionals, and LMU stands poised to produce more career-ready graduates.”
