I would like to address the article on distributive veterinary education, which mentions Midwestern University [“The Future Has Arrived,” February/March 2019].
Drs. Bob Lester and Jason W. Johnson indicate in their article that Western University offered the first distributive model of veterinary education and that 11 years later “Lincoln Memorial and Midwestern universities tried their hand at it.”
I’d like to clarify that Midwestern University’s College of Veterinary Medicine does not follow the distributive veterinary education model, which utilizes third-party clinical sites rather than a traditional on-campus teaching clinic during years 3 and 4 of the curriculum.
I am proud to share that Midwestern University has invested close to $180 million in facilities and equipment, and that all students enrolled in our DVM program are exposed to a diverse caseload and actively participate in the diagnostic work-up and treatment of patients at our Animal Health Institute, which encompasses the Companion Animal Clinic, the Equine and Bovine Center, and the Diagnostic Pathology Center, all of which provide quality care using the latest technology.
