Today’s Veterinary Business Staff

An Embrace Pet Insurance survey found that most of the company’s participating policyholders believed that insurance benefited their pets’ health and reduced strain on their finances. The survey covered various topics, such as veterinary care and lifestyle habits, to determine how owners interacted with their pets and whether insurance was an advantage.
Among the key findings in the survey of more than 12,000 policyholders were:
- 67% said they had faced high veterinary bills that would have been a financial strain without pet insurance.
- 91% said they could provide better pet care, potentially extending the animal’s life, because they had insurance.
- 66% said insuring their pets influenced their decisions to approve certain treatments and procedures.
- 46% used pet technology products, such as smart feeders, cameras and activity trackers, to enhance the animal’s life or their personal experience.
- 46% prepared or purchased homemade human-grade meals or treats for a pet.
- 55% said their workout routine included a pet.
- 67% prioritize their pets’ health and nutrition over their own.
- 45% used their pet as an excuse to end a work call or leave a meeting early.
- 14% said people remarked that they look like their pets.
- 85% identified as a dog or cat’s mom or dad or as another term of endearment.
- 35% said their pet noticeably reacted to music.
- 26% said their pet has a favorite television show.
