Almost 98% of veterinary team members reported that the American Association of Feline Practitioners’ Cat Friendly Certificate program helped them reduce stress in feline patients during veterinary visits.
In partnership with Royal Canin U.S., the AAFP published the survey findings in a white paper. More than 820 associate veterinarians, practice managers, veterinary technicians and customer service representatives who completed the AAFP Cat Friendly Certificate participated in the study.
Other highlights included:
- 98% reported the program enhanced their feline handling skills, adding more value to the examination.
- 98% said the skills they learned allow them to provide a better experience for feline patients regarding veterinary-related stress.
- More than 88% said they implemented strategies to reduce feline fear and stress, such as examining a cat in a preferred location, offering positive reinforcement and taking breaks.
- 76% said the program helped them provide better nutritional recommendations for feline patients.
- 84% received positive feedback from clients about cat-friendly certification.
- 81% said the program generated increased revenue.
- 93% reported the program positively impacted the team dynamic when handling, treating and caring for feline patients.
The Cat Friendly Certificate program, launched in 2020, strives to elevate feline veterinary care by acknowledging the cat owner’s role in the visit and understanding a cat’s distinct needs and behaviors.
