The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has sent warning letters to six companies selling unapproved medications that claim to treat and control feline and canine seizures.
The companies and the flagged products are:
- Nutrition Strength Ltd. EOOD: Dog Seizure and Epilepsy Supplement and Blood Support for Dogs
- Evolution Pets: SeizureGuard Plus and Life Span Arthritis & Mobility Advanced Enzyme Therapy
- Doc Ackerman’s Pet Products: Doc Ackerman’s Epilepsy & Seizure Formula
- Energetic Essences: Seizures Formula
- HD Frenchies: Bully Baum No Seize, Can-B-Gone Cancer Oil Extract and Brain & Neurological
- Vet Select Formula: Vet Select Nuroplex Capsules and Vet Select Nuroplex — 2-ounce Homeopathic Spray
The products are not FDA-approved or conditionally approved, meaning the agency has not verified their safety, efficacy or manufacturing methods. The drugs were sold on the companies’ websites, social media pages and Amazon without a veterinary prescription or veterinary supervision.
The FDA advises anyone using those unapproved drugs to consult a veterinarian to ensure their pet receives a proper diagnosis and treatment.
Pet owners and veterinarians are encouraged to report any adverse effects or product issues to the FDA’s Center for Veterinary Medicine. Further instructions are at bit.ly/3WpPS6G.
The FDA asked the offending companies to explain how they plan to address the violations. Without appropriate action, the FDA may take legal action.
