The Texas A&M University System’s board of regents has approved the construction of a $181 million Clinical Veterinary Teaching and Research Complex. The small animal hospital, part of the College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, is scheduled to open in August 2027.
“A once-in-a-generation project, this new hospital will ensure that Texas A&M continues to lead the nation in veterinary education,” said Dr. John R. August, the Carl B. King dean of veterinary medicine.
“The new facility will offer much-needed space for our veterinary clinicians, residents, interns, support staff and students to work, learn and provide compassionate care to our patients, as well as conduct the groundbreaking clinical trials that advance the veterinary profession as a whole.”
Linda and Dennis Clark contributed $20 million after the building’s fundraising campaign was announced in March 2023.
The new facility will include:
- 15 small animal specialty service accommodations.
- More emergency and intensive care space than in the current Small Animal Teaching Hospital.
- Twice the number of surgical suites and exam rooms.
- Client comfort rooms.
- Diagnostic imaging.
- Training areas.
“When you look at what we have at Texas A&M University in terms of the potential of the veterinary school, it is enormous, but right now, it is being limited by the facilities that are currently available at the small animal hospital,” Dennis Clark said. “If we really want the world-class small animal and research program we imagine, then we need a world-class facility.”
Vaughn Construction plans to begin site preparation and construction of the 135,000-square-foot facility in June 2025.
