A VCA veterinary hospital destroyed by Hurricane Ian in September 2022 has reopened across the street on Sanibel Island, Florida.
Patients and clients returned on June 10 to VCA Sanibel Animal Hospital, which at 4,100 square feet is more than four times the size of the original. The new hospital, with five exam rooms instead of one, also provides more advanced services, including dentistry, surgery, separate canine and feline kennels, grooming, ultrasound, cold laser, and radiology.
“Our new state-of-the-art, locally sourced and paper-light facility will allow us to triple the number of pets that we see in a day,” said VCA chief operating officer Aaron Frazier.
The company stepped up immediately after the hurricane.
“Support from around VCA at the time of Ian helped us activate satellite hospitals surrounding the island to provide care for affected pets and made sure our associates had immediate supplies and assistance,” said Jennifer Nichols, VCA Sanibel Animal’s hospital manager.
VCA, which operates veterinary hospitals nationwide, is offering the 2024 Hurricane Preparedness Playbook for pet owners. It may be downloaded for free at bit.ly/3RxvJsO.
