Clemson Trustees Approve New Veterinary School
The Clemson University board of trustees agreed to open the first and only veterinary medicine college in South Carolina. The College of Veterinary Medicine expects to welcome an inaugural 80-student class in fall 2026. The founding dean is Dr. Steven Marks, a former North Carolina State University associate dean.
UC Davis Ranks Second Worldwide
For the fifth time, the University of California, Davis, School of Veterinary Medicine placed second in the QS World University Rankings. Topping the 2024 list is the University of London Royal Veterinary College. Cornell University is third.
AAFP Offers Guidelines on Feline NSAID Use
The American Association of Feline Practitioners and the International Society of Feline Medicine released guidelines on the long-term use of NSAIDs in cats. According to the groups, the resource “supports practitioners with decision-making around prescribing NSAIDs in situations of chronic pain to minimize adverse effects and optimize pain management for their feline patients.” Details are at bit.ly/3TTJF0O.
Antech Offers AIS RapidRead and Nu.Q Cancer Test
Veterinary diagnostics company Antech introduced two new tools: AIS RapidRead, for faster interpretations of radiographs, and the in-house Nu.Q canine cancer test. AIS RapidRead, powered by artificial intelligence, “was trained on the world’s largest library of companion animal images to provide veterinarians with an immediate radiology second opinion,” Antech reported.

VPP Welcomes 100th Veterinarian Co-Owner
Veterinary Practice Partners saw its 100th associate veterinarian become a clinic co-owner. “Participation in this model has recently accelerated, with 46 associates making the leap to co-ownership in 2023 and 2024 alone,” the company stated. The newest partner is Dr. Haley Evans Webster of Sangaree Animal Hospital in Summerville, South Carolina.
Social Worker Joins VERG Staff
Veterinary Emergency and Referral Group, a 24-hour hospital in Brooklyn, hired its first on-site client support coordinator. According to VERG, Christine Galotti will assist pet owners and veterinary staff “in navigating through stress, grief and the sadness associated with various pet-related situations.” She holds a master degree in social work.
N.Y. Hospital’s Charitable Care Valued at $3.6 Million
New York City’s nonprofit Schwarzman Animal Medical Center donated over $3.6 million in charitable care in 2023. The hospital’s annual report also counted 548 staff members, a 30% increase in workforce over the past five years, and an average of 157 daily patient visits. Dogs comprised 68% of the patients.

5 CityVet Clinics Offer Urgent Care
The 36-hospital CityVet network expanded into providing urgent care at five clinics. Three practices are in Texas (San Antonio, Dallas and Fort Worth), and two are in Denver.
Mars Pioneers Gas-Capture Project
Mars Veterinary Health is partnering with SageTech Veterinary, a U.K.-based company, on a pilot program to prevent the escape of anesthetic gases into the Earth’s atmosphere from 10 veterinary practices in the Linnaeus group. “During a typical anesthetic procedure, less than 5% of the volatile anesthetic agent delivered to a patient is absorbed and metabolized, leaving approximately 95% … to be exhaled,” Mars stated. “SageTech’s trusted gas-capture technology … works by capturing the waste anesthetic agent … into a specially developed reusable capture canister.”
