The American Veterinary Medical Association is reassuring people unnerved by the COVID-19 pandemic that its annual convention is still scheduled to take place four months from now.
An email notice from AVMA CEO Janet D. Donlin, DVM, CAE, advised registrants and prospective attendees that “we’re proceeding with plans” for the convention, which is set for July 31 to August 4 in San Diego.
“We understand this is an incredibly challenging time for all,” Dr. Donlin wrote. “COVID-19 continues to affect everyone’s lives — both personal and professional. As the situation evolves, the AVMA is closely monitoring its impact on veterinarians and our families.”
A $75 fee that would be assessed if a registration is canceled before June 26 instead would be credited toward “online learning opportunities on AVMA Axon,” the association reported.
Registration discounts are in effect through June 10.
The 2019 convention drew more than 8,100 people to Washington, D.C.
